I have worked in a literature consultancy role for a number of organisations. These include the British Council, The Poetry Society, Apples and Snakes, Mslexia, Writing East Midlands, the University of Nottingham, Notts County Council, Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Writers’ Studio, Derbyshire County Council, Royal Derby Hospitals, and a number of community organisations and writing groups.
Please see below for my full range of consultancy work.
Cathy Grindrod was a vital partner in establishing storytelling and poetry evenings and children's poetry events at the Royal Centre, thus establishing a new performance genre, as well as new audiences for us.
Cathy continues to be a vital link for us in making connections with literary artists.
-DL, Nottingham Royal Centre-
I am an experienced literature event programmer, having directed the first Southwell Poetry Festival in 2000 for Newark and Sherwood District Council and Nottingham’s Poetry in the City Festival from 2001-2007 for Nottingham City Council. I have also been involved in co-ordinating a number of writer events, projects in the community and day conferences. Clients have included Writing East Midlands, the University of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire County Council, and the Alan Sillitoe Project.
I worked with Derbyshire County Council Arts Department on their Writing Ambitions programme,
co-ordinating day-long events for writers, focusing on writer support and development. I was consultant to the Derbyshire Wellbeing Project from 2008-2010.
If you are an arts or community organisation interested in creative writing as part of your offer, and would like advice, please get in touch.
Cathy Grindrod is the first person we turn to whenever we're planning a visit, a project, or an event in the East Midlands. She has been fundamental in helping the Poetry Society liaise with others in the poetry community, facilitating ways for us to ensure lasting connections around the country. -JM, The Poetry Society-
I have helped a number of writing groups to become independent, and am able to offer advice on programming, writer events, running workshops and competitions, and group critiquing of work, as well as general advice on the running of a group, constitutions and applying for funding. I can also facilitate sessions for writer groups on deciding aims and objectives, forward planning and troubleshooting.
I have helped to produce several writing anthologies for groups, including selection, editing, and advice on production.
If you are running a community project which requires
a final evaluation report for funding purposes, I am able to help you with this. I need to be involved in your project from the start so that I can help you to devise feedback methods which will inform the final report.
I have a lot of experience as an editor, including the editing of various writer anthologies for groups, projects, for the University of Nottingham, and for Derby Hospitals’ Poetry in the Waiting Room scheme. I also help with the editing of business documents.
I was the Website Editor of www.contemporarywriters.com for the British Council for ten years.
I am able to undertake scoping documents if you are researching literature related activity in your area. Examples of research I have undertaken include researching the needs of writing workshop participants and workshop tutors for a consultancy document for Nottingham Writers’ Studio, and a regional literature consultancy report for Apples and Snakes.
I have spoken and been a panel member at a number of conferences and literature events, including most recently at the East Midlands Writing Industries Conference, Derbyshire Arts and Health Conference, Derbyshire Arts Conference, Derby Reader Development Training Day, and East Midlands Regional Reading and Health Conference.
Thank you for your presentation at the Arts Derbyshire conference. You were great, as always, and the poem you wrote was an excellent way to end the conference.
